毛姆小说中的漫游者形象研究

【摘要】:热衷于探寻人生意义的“漫游者”是毛姆小说中反复出现的人物形象。在《人生的枷锁》里,菲利普在面临宗教信仰、情感和生活方式的选择时,非理性的情感往往占了上风,这使得菲利普的每次转变都显得特别盲目,可以说菲利普形象表现出对于迷失自我的反思;在《月亮与六便士》中,思特里克兰德为了心中的艺术理想,抛开家庭,隐身于孤岛,并坚持绘画创作到生命的最后一刻,可以说思特里克兰德形象是对于自我的寻找;在《刀锋》里,美国青年拉里因受战争的影响,回国后找不到生活的位置。后来通过接触三种不同的思想,并最终从印度教中顿悟,选择回到美国做一个自食其力的出租车司机,可以说拉里形象就是围绕如何完善自我而展开的。 从上述这些漫游者形象,我们一方面可以看出毛姆在不同时期的不同追求,比如菲利普与毛姆早期的人生观、思特里克兰德与叔本华对毛姆的影响、拉里与东方文化对毛姆的影响;另一方面我们也可以看出毛姆的人生轨迹,比如逃避现实、崇尚原始社会、对人性真善美的追寻。 漫游者形象中体现的对于人性中“真善美”的追求,是值得我们吸收和借鉴的。但是漫游者形象身上体现出的逃避现实,用虚无麻痹自己的思想以及崇尚原始社会,反对现代都市文明的观点是应该批判和抛弃的。
[Abstract]:The rover, who is keen to explore the meaning of life, is a recurring figure in Maugham's novels. In the shackles of Life, Philip's irrational emotions tend to prevail in the face of religious beliefs, emotions, and lifestyle choices, which makes every shift of Philip seem particularly blind. It can be said that Philip's image shows a reflection on the lost self; in the Moon and Sixpence, Strickland, for the sake of artistic ideals in his heart, puts aside his family, steals himself on the island, and insists on painting until the last moment of his life. It can be said that Strickland's image is a search for self. In Blade, American youth Larry is unable to find a place to live after returning to China because of the influence of war. Later, through contact with three different ideas, and finally from the Hindu epiphany, choose to return to the United States to become a self-supporting taxi driver, it can be said that Larry's image is around how to improve themselves. On the one hand, we can see the different pursuits of Maugham in different periods, such as Philip and Maugham's early outlook on life, the influence of Strickland and Schopenhauer on Maugham. On the other hand, we can see Maugham's life track, such as escaping from reality, advocating primitive society, pursuing the truth, good and beauty of human nature. The pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty in human nature embodied in the image of rover is worthy of our absorption and reference. But the escapism embodied in the image of the rover should be criticized and abandoned by paralyzing his thoughts with nothingness and advocating primitive society and opposing the modern urban civilization.
