《温夫人的扇子》中女主人公对话的人际意义研究

系统功能语言学为对文学作品进行文体分析提供了理论基础。它的创立者韩礼德认为所有语言都围绕三个纯理功能—概念功能、人际功能、语篇功能来组织的。人际功能不仅体现说话人的身份和地位,而且展现了他的态度、动机或对周边环境的推理。而人际意义是指反映说话人之间人际关系本质的那层意义。目前,许多研究从人际功能的角度进行话语分析,但极少有人对戏剧进行人际功能研究。戏剧的一个重要方面就是强调言语的互动及通过人物的话语来建构并协商他们关系的方式,因此,从语言学角度分析戏剧对白的人际意义有助于我们更好地理解剧本中会话生效的方式,更好地欣赏剧作者设计人物言语的技巧,更深地探讨人物间的互动。 本论文以对剧本文体的功能分析为基础,主要从功能的角度,来研究奥斯卡·王尔德的喜剧《温德米尔夫人的扇子》第三幕开始时,厄林夫人与温德米尔夫人对话中,由语气、情态、和评价系统实现的人际意义。目的是探索对话中的语气、情态、和评价传递了哪些人际意义;人物的性格、情感、态度和心理是如何通过人际意义揭示的;人物之间关系的变化是如何通过语言来体现的;该剧反映了剧作者对剧中人持何种态度及维多利亚时代的道德在对话中是如何体现的。 本研究的主要发现如下: 第一,对语气系统实现的人际意义的分析表明,厄林夫人发起并控制对话。语气和句式的独特选择都围绕着情节的发展和人物性格的刻画。这为欣赏该剧,并弄清王尔德对剧中人的态度—同情“坏”女人,嘲讽“好”女人,提供了一个新的视角。 第二,对情态系统实现的人际意义的分析,则有助于揭示厄林夫人与温德米尔夫人不同的性格特征,并展现了她们之间关系的变化。情态操作词、情态附加语和情态隐喻的选择都符合人物的特点和态度,及情节的发展。 第三,对评价系统实现的人际意义的分析进一步揭示了人物的情感、心理、对待彼此的态度及相互关系。同时,两个角色使用的态度语(情感、判断和鉴赏)揭露了维多利亚时代上流社会的虚伪、自私和虚荣心。 第四,对由语气、情态、评价系统所体现的人际意义的分析揭示出《温德米尔夫人的扇子》的主题是宽容。它展现了剧作者对渴望赎罪的人的同情,对宽容精神的呼吁,以及对维多利亚时代道德的批判与讽刺。 第五,对话中的人际意义分析揭示了人物的态度、价值观及随着情节的发展,她们的微妙变化。该分析证实了这这样的事实,即在维多利亚时代的道德观下的一个声名狼藉的坏女人牺牲自己的声誉来挽救一个正统的好女人的名声和家庭。这表明传统的维多利亚道德对有过失的人的严苛与残酷是不合理的,也显示了剧作者对渴望赎罪的人的同情。根据维多利亚社会道德的主流,似乎“好”女人在做“坏”事,“坏”女人在做“好”事。维多利亚晚期上流社会的虚伪、自私和无耻得到进一步揭示,它反映了王尔德以反传统的和似非而是的方式对维多利亚道德进行的批判与讽刺。 本论文最后得出如下结论: 对厄林夫人与温德米尔夫人对话中人际意义的研究表明剧作者所采用的人物对白语言形式是为其剧作的主旨、情节的发展、人物的性格特点而设定的,语气、情态和评价语的独特选择都围绕着情节的发展和人物性格的刻画。剧作者正是通过人际系统中的语言、结构和措辞来塑造人物,展现他们之间的人际关系及互动,作为剧中非常重要的部分是推动情节发展至高潮,最终达到剧作者的愿望,并满足读者或观众的期待。 本论文证明从语言学角度对《温德米尔夫人的扇子》进行分析和欣赏,有助于揭示英国维多利亚时代的语言特色和语言风范,解释人物的性格、情感、态度和他们之间的关系,及该剧的主题——宽容。 本研究表明对戏剧中人际意义的分析,可帮助我们探索实现人际意义的不同方式,检测人际功能用于分析戏剧对白的可行性,揭示人物之间的关系,深化对戏剧的理解和欣赏,弄清剧作者对剧中人物的态度,并了解人际意义对该剧情节发展变化的作用。
