从目的论角度对《兄弟》英译本的翻译批评

【摘要】：本文选取了国内先锋派代表人物余华的《兄弟》英译本作为批评对象,并以目的论作为理论视角来进行翻译批评。传统的文学翻译批评将视角囿于译作是否与源语文本“对等”和“忠实”并将其作为评判译作的唯一标准。20世纪70年代德国以莱斯、弗米尔和诺德为代表的目的论学派则为翻译研究提供了一个崭新的视角,从静态的的语言翻译观转向了动态的翻译分析和探究,认为译者在翻译过程中要根据译文的预期目的来决定自己的翻译策略和方法,评判译作主要看译文达到预期目的的程度。 本文在目的论视角之下从三个维度对《兄弟》英译本进行了宏观层面和微观层面的翻译批评,首先是译者维度,确立了译者的翻译目的,并对译者主体性的进行了分析,认为译者主体性的发挥包括译者的创新和对原文的尊重两个方面,这在一定程度上与目的论提出的翻译原则是一致的。其次,是目的语读者维度,对目的语读者对于《兄弟》英译本的接受从文学层面和翻译层面进行了分析和总结,并回答了目的语读者对于译本反映的缘由。最后从微观层面对译本运用目的原则、连贯原则、忠实原则和忠诚原则进行分析：探索了译者是如何采取翻译策略对中国文化进行传递并反映中国社会现实从而达到预期的翻译目的的；分析了译者如何根据两种语言和文化的不同而采取翻译策略使得译文在目的语文化环境下有意义；运用忠实原则,对于译本是否再现了源语文本的文学风格进行了探索；最后运用忠诚原则对在翻译过程中,分析译者是如何协调好原作者、译者自身以及目的语读者之间的关系从而达到共识的。 经过上述分析,本文认为《兄弟》的译者罗浩和周成荫夫妇根据翻译目的采取了合适的翻译策略,忠实地展现了中华文化并反映了中国社会过去40余年的生活风貌,并很好地传递了原作的文学风格从而达到了预期的翻译目的。
