布迪厄文化生产理论观照下辜鸿铭对《论语》的复译

【摘要】:翻译,包括复译,是在一定的社会文化中进行的,翻译作品,特别是复译作品的形成与社会文化有着千丝万缕的联系。本文在布迪厄文化生产场域理论的观照下,将翻译作品看成目的文化中的文化产品,剖析19世纪末辜鸿铭《论语》复译作品的产生。 布迪厄将文化生产看作一个场域。文化生产场域在结构上分为两个对立的子场域:小规模的限制性生产场域和大规模的大众性生产场域。小规模场域的生产主要是为了其他文化生产者,而大规模场域是为了迎合普通读者。不同子场域的竞争特点不同。大规模场域的竞争主要是为了赢得文化威望,小规模场域的竞争主要是为了征服市场,赢得尽可能多的读者。 同时,文化生产场域为场域中的文化生产者提供一个可能性空间,该可能性空间为文化产品的出现提供某些可能性。而文化生产子产域内的竞争为相应文化产品的不断出现提供根本动力。简而言之,文化产品的推陈出新是文化生产场域内不同性情的文化生产者在可能性空间的基础上进行竞争的结果。文化场域之外的因素,,对文化产品的产生只起到间接的作用。 在该理论框架下,本文首先分析《论语》翻译作品在19世纪西方文化中所属的子场域,继而分析19世纪末《论语》复译作品产生的可能性以及辜鸿铭对这些可能性的认识和接受,最后阐述辜鸿铭采取哪些策略与其它《论语》译者,特别是与理雅各进行竞争,导致《论语》复译作品的产生。 本研究可以帮助人们加深对复译作品形成的认识,对分析其它翻译作品的出现也有一定的借鉴作用。
[Abstract]:Translation, including retranslation, is carried out in a certain social culture. The formation of translation works, especially retranslation works, is inextricably related to social culture. Based on Bourdieu's cultural production field theory, this paper regards translated works as cultural products in the target culture, and analyzes the production of the retranslated works of Gu Hongming in the late 19th century. Bourdieu regards cultural production as a field. The cultural production field is divided into two opposite sub-fields in structure: the small scale restricted production field and the large-scale popular production field. The production of small-scale field is mainly for other cultural producers, and large-scale field is to cater to ordinary readers. The competition characteristics of different subfields are different. The competition of large-scale field is mainly to win cultural prestige, and the competition of small field is mainly to conquer the market and win as many readers as possible. At the same time, the field of cultural production provides a possibility space for the cultural producers in the field, which provides some possibilities for the emergence of cultural products. The competition in the region of cultural production provides the fundamental power for the continuous emergence of the corresponding cultural products. In short, the innovation of cultural products is the result of competition between cultural producers of different temperament in the field of cultural production on the basis of possibility space. The factors outside the cultural field only play an indirect role in the production of cultural products. Under the framework of this theory, this paper first analyzes the subfield of translation works in the 19th century western culture. Then it analyzes the possibility of the retranslation of the Analects of Confucius in the late 19th century and Gu Hongming's understanding and acceptance of these possibilities. At last, it expounds the strategies taken by Gu Hongming to compete with other Analects translators, especially with Reich Jacob. It leads to the retranslation of the Analects of Confucius (Analects of Confucius). This study can help people to deepen their understanding of the formation of retranslated works, and can also be used for reference in the analysis of the emergence of other translated works.
