迷失与回归—《巴比特》的文学伦理学阐释

　　刘易斯（Sinclair Lewis,1885-1951）,美国第一位荣获诺贝尔文学奖的作家,其小说大多展示美国20世纪20年代中产阶级的生活画面。《巴比特》（1922）描绘了美国商业文化繁盛时期城市商人的生活,是其最杰出的力作之一。目前对这部小说的研究主要集中在消费文化、心理学分析、作者创作艺术等方面,而小说的伦理价值挖掘较少。本文采用文学伦理学批评方法,回到20世纪美国社会的伦理现场,剖析小说中两位男性的伦理焦虑、伦理身份意识混乱过程以及基于此所做出的伦理选择:出轨,即迷失;阐释这两位男性出轨之后不同的伦理选择,不同结局所带来的伦理教诲,揭示小说中传递出来的刘易斯关于人类家庭的伦理观,为《巴比特》研究提供新视角。《巴比特》讲述了在20世纪20年代历经巨变的美国,中产阶级面对这种巨变时所感受的迷茫与不知所措,以及这种迷茫在家庭生活中的具体体现。经济高速运转,消费主义盛行,在新伦理秩序中旧道德规范渐行渐远,而新道德体系尚未成熟,人们处于迷惘之中。文学伦理学认为:由于清教主义对人们的约束力减弱,小说中主要人物的自由意志开始膨胀,他们想要摆脱家庭责任和伦理道德的束缚,寻找自己梦想的自由以及...
