[Abstract]:Philip Rothsworth is an outstanding representative of contemporary American Jewish novelists, influential in American literature and one of the most competitive candidates for the Nobel Prize in Literature in recent years. Considered by some scholars to be the most thoughtful and excellent of all his works, the novel is based on the political and social background of President Johnson's military mission to Vietnam and President Nixon's Watergate scandal, and on the conflict between father and daughter, husband and wife. American Jewish immigrant families and American social conflicts are the focus of the discussion, which reveals the disintegration of Jewish tradition, the fragmentation of American dream, the eternal absence of desire and the alienation of Jewish identity. The critics at home and abroad discuss the theme and identity of American Shepherd from the aspects of culture, role analysis, narrative techniques, postmodernism writing characteristics, etc. However, most of them focus on the relationship between identity alienation and cultural change of the main characters in the novel, but few study the relationship between the psychological change process of the Jewish family members and the identity alienation in the novel. So the author uses the theory of imagination and symbolism in the psychology of Jacques Lacan, a French psychologist, as well as the theory of the subject of desire, to analyze Meley and Merry, the 4th generation Jewish immigrants in the United States, and the third generation Jewish immigrants. Lviv's father, Lviv, underwent psychological changes and ultimately led to the causes of his dissimilation. The author analyzed the Lakon-style psychoanalysis of Mei Li, the heroine of American Shepherd, and Lviv, the hero of the American Shepherd, who created and burst the desires of the heroine Lviv. It highlights the complex living state, spiritual crisis and the tragedy of identity alienation of the two generations of Jewish immigrants under the influence of American mainstream culture and Jewish traditional culture. The main body of the thesis is divided into three parts: the first part introduces the principle of Lacan psychology in detail, the second part discusses Mei Li's passive narcissistic desire, the disillusionment of her desire and the final identity alienation. The third part discusses the Swede Seymour Lviv's active desire for love, the collapse of Lviv's desire and his final identity alienation.
