[Abstract]:"Jazz" is the second masterpiece of the famous African-American writer Tony Morrison, who depicts the 100-year history of black Americans. The main novel was published in 1992. The following year Morrison was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. The New York Times Book Review highly praised the novel as a remarkable and amazing novel. It is an important milestone in the history of American literature. With the help of jazz improvisation, the novel begins to narrate and promote the development of storylines. Read as if you were in the midst of an impromptu melody played by jazz musicians in Harlem, New York, in -80s. This postmodernist masterpiece, Jazz has become an immortal work in the history of American literature. This paper tries to make a systematic analysis of Jazz by means of metaphorical theory. In order to profoundly interpret the artistic expression techniques used by the author and the main ideas conveyed by the artistic expression techniques. For a long time, Academic research on Tony Morrison has mostly focused on "the Bluest eyes" and "Song of Solomon". There are relatively few people studying "Jazz", especially in the previous studies of Jazz from European and American comparative literature. Narrative strategies, post-colonialism, psychoanalysis or female consciousness are rarely explored from the perspective of metaphorical analysis, so this paper intends to explore Jazz from the perspective of metaphorical analysis. To explore the possibility of using metaphor theory to analyze literary works and broaden the field and scope of research. The metaphorical theory was put forward by Henry Louis Gates Jr., a famous African-American literary critic, when he used modern western linguistics and semiotics to study African-American cultural tradition. His metaphorical theory is somewhere between language and language. A highly inclusive literary theory between academic analysis and cultural analysis. The presentation of metaphorical theory provides researchers with a unique methodology and a new perspective for the interpretation of African-American literature. The help of metaphorical theory is conducive to a deeper analysis of the cultural and psychological world of African-American works. In African-American literature, metaphorical features are mainly characterized by linguistic metaphors. The metaphorical reference of image and the metaphorical reference of text reflect the implied theme of the work. This study attempts to interpret Jazz from three aspects: language use, image analysis and intertextuality. The purpose is to gain a new and deeper understanding of the significance of the theme revealed in the novel and to provide a unique perspective for the appreciation of Morrison's works. Finally, the author points out that this novel uses the African traditional metaphorical method to describe effectively. Profoundly reflecting the author's understanding of the material and psychological worlds of African-Americans and his concern for their living conditions. In the form of novels, the author calls for the return of traditional black culture. To seek the realization of self-identity and the appeal of national complex. Morrison's use of effective metaphor reflects the importance of black traditional culture to the black people, especially the black people who are suppressed by the mainstream American white culture. It is pointed out that the recognition of black traditional culture is helpful to the positive construction of black self-identity and the maintenance of personal sense of belonging. In addition, Morrison's descriptive art also shows that she attaches great importance to family relations. And the great impact of community relations on the development of the individual and of the nation as a whole. Her wonderful melody, full of traditional metaphors, contains human love and enlightens people's communication and understanding. This is the practical significance of effective literary description to the theme of the author.
