[Abstract]:By analyzing Virginia Woolf's Orlando: a Biography, this paper tries to find out the narrative discourse in this novel from the perspective of feminist narratology. The feminist thought behind the design of time and space and the strategy of sexism. In the late 1990s, narratology underwent a transformation from a closed text-centered approach to an open one that combines form and content. Feminist narratology is a branch of narratology. Combined with feminist criticism and narratology, this paper explores the ideology implied in narrative texts, especially gender consciousness. As a carrier of ideology and an important concept in narratology, Narrative discourse is the starting point of this study. Focus and sound as two important elements of narrative discourse have always been the focus of attention of narratologists and feminist narratologists. Focus and Sound in Orlando: a Biography. It embodies Virginia Woolf's feminist thought. At the story level, the space-time design in Orlando: a Biography also embodies Woolf's feminist thinking. In time design, the physical time symbolizing male authority parallels the psychological time that symbolizes female consciousness. A new narrative structure has been constructed, and the narrative structure of traditional biographies has been broken according to linear time. In terms of spatial processing, London symbolizes the fixed nature of men. Constantinople, on the other hand, symbolizes the fusion of male inflexibility and female mobility. Woolf's feminist gender thinking is also reflected in her sexist strategy. She consciously sexualizes some of the characters in the novel as well as images such as water and oak poetry, which combine masculinity and femininity. That is to say, the state of being bisexual. To sum up, this paper combines feminist criticism with narratology. An in-depth analysis of Virginia Woolf's narrative text Orlando: a Biography aimed at exploring the interaction between form (i.e. narrative techniques and textual strategies) and content (i.e. feminist thought). The thesis can contribute a little to fill the gap between Woolf's narrative technique and his feminist thought.
