[Abstract]:As Woolf's masterpiece, Madame Dalloway has always been regarded as an outstanding work of modernism and a typical representative of stream of consciousness novels. The whole story frame is made up of the experiences of several leading characters roaming the streets of London. In other words, the heroine's street roaming experience and the spiritual roaming accompanied by his body roam form the frame and content of the whole story. On this level, Madame D'Alowe can be regarded as a typical representative of the urban rover, in which the characters are more or less given the color of the rover. The rovers stroll through the streets of the city, observe the city from their unique perspective, and expose the inextricable relationship among the urban people, the city and the modernization. Based on the image of rover put forward by Baudelaire and Benjamin's view that roaming is a kind of art of wandering and observing in the city, this paper discusses the main characters in Madame Dalloway's street travel in London. It reveals the relationship between modern people, cities and modernization. For example, some of the characters in the article, such as Mrs. Dalloway, want to integrate into the urban experience of modernity on the other hand, they can not get rid of the shackles of traditional morality. In the urban street roaming, they feel more uneasy and want to hide into the city. Other characters, such as Elizabeth, were born and raised in the new era, feeling more free and confident in urban streets. The analysis of the roaming experience of the main characters in the text from the perspective of male and female rovers will further present the different relationships between the characters in the text and the city and modernity. Urban streets have traditionally been seen as the public domain of men, and women have been expelled from public spaces. Woolf's women stroll on the streets of London in a bold manner, practicing both physical and mental roaming. In the first half of this thesis, through the discussion of the two generations of London street travel represented by Mrs. Dalloway and her daughter Elizabeth, it further reveals how modern urban women break away from the shackles of traditional values step by step and go to the streets of the city. Observe the city, experience modernity and finally become part of the city. However, Woolf's street rovers do not lack men, and the second part also explores the male rovers represented by Peter and Septimus. They interpret the modern city, modernity and women in the city with their own unique vision. The last part of this thesis is divided into two generations of female rovers and between female and male rovers. In this comparative study, the different characteristics between the two generations of female rovers and between female and male rovers further reveal their different modernity and urban experience, thus further expand and deepen the whole study.
