[Abstract]:This paper analyzes Michael Cunningham's novel "the hour" from the perspective of historical writing metafiction, and analyzes the post-modern parody techniques adopted by the writers in the process of writing, as well as the writing techniques in which different historical time and space are juxtaposed. It explains Cunningham's deep concern about female psychological depression. This paper first introduces the theory of historical writing metafiction and interprets the novel which has the characteristics of text autonomy and intertextuality through this critical angle of view. Cunningham uses post-modern parody techniques, from three aspects: the change of narrative structure, the change of the meaning of the evening party, and the remolding of the image of Mrs. Dalloway, which causes readers to think about history and reality. At the same time, Cunningham makes a parallel analysis of the three heroines under different social background and ideology by using the expression techniques of historical figures interspersed with different historical backgrounds. It reveals that in different times they are inevitably subjected to psychological repression, but the female consciousness has gradually changed. Through the analysis of "every hour", the paper highly appraises Cunningham's sympathy for women in the struggle of ideal and reality, and his profound thinking on the future of women.
