菲茨杰拉德《了不起的盖茨比》与耶茨《革命之路》之比较

【摘要】：菲茨杰拉德(Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald)作为美国“爵士乐时代”的重要作家,其代表作《了不起的盖茨比》(The Great Gatsby)突出反映了二十世纪20年代美国拜金主义、享乐主义的社会状况,生动再现了那个时代的人们对“美国梦”的追求和向往,而最终梦想破灭的悲剧。理查德·耶茨(Richard Yates)的《革命之路》(Revolutionary Road)对“焦虑时代”的社会状况进行深刻反思,批评了精神麻木、贪图安逸、保守主义思潮泛滥的50年代,美国民众已经将“美国梦”渐渐遗忘。本论文对这两部作品进行比较研究,尝试挖掘其蕴藏丰富的社会批判价值和文学艺术价值。 第一章对比了两位作家所处的时代特点及人生经历,考查了两位作家的小说创作背景,分析了他们不同的文学地位及文学影响。 第二章对两部作品的主要人物形象进行比较,《了不起的盖茨比》中的盖茨比和《革命之路》中的爱波都是那个时代突出的理想主义追求者,他们都经历了“自我认同的反思”、“社会认同下的自我实现”、“孤独的覆灭”这几个阶段,在短暂的一生中汲汲探求着自己的身份归属,坚定地实践着人生追求。 第三章对两部作品中的社会批判与反思进行比较,尽管他们的作品反映了不同的时代现状,但其对社会问题的反思却超越了历史局限性而遥相呼应,深入契合。本章主要从单向度的社会价值观、时代变化下的大众精神危机、人际关系的虚伪冷漠这几个方面去探究他们作品中所反映的共同的社会病症,并就他们小说中的“美国梦”这一话题进行分析。 第四章对两部作品的艺术特色进行比较,在艺术特色方面二者存在较大差异。就此分别从小说的叙述视角、艺术手法以及语言风格这三个方面展开论述。 《了不起的盖茨比》与《革命之路》都是20世纪美国文学的优秀代表作品,凝聚了作者对于当下时代的深刻思考和对于文学创作的潜心探索,将这两部作品进行比较对于充分发掘20世纪美国文学的价值具有重要意义。
[Abstract]:Fitzgerald (Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald), as an important writer in the Jazz Age, whose masterpiece, the Great Gatsby, highlights the social conditions of American money worship and hedonism in the 1920s. It vividly reproduces the pursuit and yearning for the American Dream and the tragedy of the dream being destroyed. Richard Yates's "the Road to Revolution" by (Revolutionary Road) reflects deeply on the social conditions of the "Age of anxiety", criticizing the 1950s, when the mind was numb, coveted for ease, and conservatism was rampant. The American people have forgotten the American Dream. This paper makes a comparative study of the two works and tries to excavate their rich social critical value and literary and artistic value. The first chapter compares the characteristics and life experiences of the two writers, examines the background of their novels, and analyzes their different literary status and influence. The second chapter compares the main characters of the two works. Gatsby in the Great Gatsby and Ebor in the Road to Revolution are prominent idealistic suitors of that era. They all experienced the stages of "self-identity reflection", "self-realization under social identity" and "the collapse of loneliness". In the short life, they searched for their identity and carried out the pursuit of life firmly. The third chapter compares the social criticism and reflection in the two works. Although their works reflect the different times, their reflection on social problems surmounts the historical limitations and goes further into line with each other. This chapter mainly explores the common social symptoms reflected in their works from the aspects of unidirectional social values, the public spiritual crisis under the changing times, and the hypocrisy and indifference of interpersonal relations. And analyze the topic of the American Dream in their novels. The fourth chapter compares the artistic characteristics of the two works. In this paper, the narrative angle, artistic technique and language style of the novel are discussed. "the Great Gatsby" and "the Road to Revolution" are both outstanding works of American literature in the 20th century, which have condensed the author's profound thinking about the present era and his exploration of literary creation. It is of great significance to fully explore the value of American literature in the 20 th century by comparing the two works.
