从评价理论角度分析《了不起的盖茨比》

【摘要】:弗朗西斯·司各特·菲茨杰拉德是美国现代小说家中的巨匠之一,是美国“爵士乐时代”的代言人、优秀的“编年史家”、“迷惘的一代”的代表作家。《了不起的盖茨比》是菲茨杰拉德的第三部长篇小说,被公认为作者最有代表性的作品,最能反映美国20世纪二十年代爵士乐时代经济繁荣背后道德的缺失以及美国梦的幻灭。 评价理论是在系统功能语言学人际意义研究的基础上发展的评价系统理论框架。该理论包括三大子系统:态度、介入、级差。态度包括情感,判定和鉴赏。介入是用来衡量说话人作者的声音和语篇中各种命题和主张的关系。级差是一系列价值,指的是说话人借此把人际印象以及他们的言语的容量分级(提高或降低)或说话人借此把其语义类型的焦点变模糊或变清晰。 本文以《了不起的盖茨比》的第七章为语料,并运用System-Coder数据切分统计软件进行了定量分析。数据分析结果为第七章共有1763个评价资源,其中态度资源占了33.4%,介入资源占了24.0%,级差资源占了42.6%。 通过分析发现:(1)《了不起的盖茨比》的第七章中,评价资源非常丰富。(2)态度资源和级差资源的使用要大于介入资源的使用。(3)评价性资源运用的多少,在态度资源里运用肯定的还是否定的,在参与资源里是封闭性的还是开放性的,在级差资源中是增强还是降低,所有这些不仅可以反映说话者对人物事件态度的强烈程度而且可以揭示人物的心理特征,同时这些心理特征又可以通过评价性词汇运用的多寡显示出来,小说中人物的的性格由此表现出来。 通过对语料中评价资源的分析旨在探索小说人物的性格特点以及他们之间的复杂情感变化以此说明评价理论为小说文本的研究提供了全新的视角。
[Abstract]:Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the great masters of modern American novels, the spokesman of the Jazz Age and an excellent chronicler. Representative writer of lost Generation. The Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald's third novel and is recognized as the author's most representative work. It best reflects the moral deficiency and disillusionment of the American dream behind the jazz boom of the 1920s. Evaluation theory is a theoretical framework of evaluation system based on the study of interpersonal meaning in systemic functional linguistics. The theory includes three subsystems: attitude, intervention and differential. Attitudes include emotion, judgment and appreciation. Intervention is used to measure the relationship between the speaker's voice and the propositions and propositions in the discourse. Hierarchical difference is a series of values, which means that the speaker grades the interpersonal impression and the capacity of their speech, or the speaker uses it to blur or clear the focus of their semantic type. In this paper, the seventh chapter of the Great Gatsby is taken as the corpus, and the quantitative analysis is carried out by using the System-Coder data segmentation and statistics software. The result of data analysis is that there are 1763 evaluation resources in Chapter 7, among which, attitude resources account for 33.4, interventional resources account for 24.0and graded resources account for 42.6 percent. It is found that: (1) in Chapter 7 of the Great Gatsby, evaluation resources are very rich. (2) the use of attitude resources and differential resources is greater than that of intervention resources. Whether to use positive or negative in attitude resources, to be closed or open in participation resources, or to strengthen or decrease in differential resources, All of these can not only reflect the intensity of the speaker's attitude towards the events, but also reveal the psychological characteristics of the characters, and these psychological characteristics can also be shown through the use of evaluative words. The character of the characters in the novel is thus revealed. Through the analysis of the evaluation resources in the corpus, the purpose of this paper is to explore the characters of the characters and the complex emotional changes between them, so as to show that the evaluation theory provides a new perspective for the study of the novel texts.
