[Abstract]:Emily Dickinson is one of the greatest poets in the United States. Li he is a famous poet in the middle Tang Dynasty in China. This paper focuses on the theme of death in Dickinson's and Li he's poems, presents the similarities and differences in their poems, and probes into the deep-seated factors that form the theme of death in their poems. Both Dickinson and Li he's life are covered with the shadow of death, full of the shock and suffering brought by death. Against this background, Dickinson and Li he began to write poems on the theme of death, but their themes of death were the same and different. They all had a fear of death, but yearning for it, and doubts about God and the gods after their disappointment. They believe that life is a circular process, and this view of time is embodied in poetry. But their true attitude toward death is different. Li he describes ghosts and gods as a way to release his fear of death. He is so obsessed with life that he does not believe in the idea that he can live forever after death. Dickinson is calm about death because she believes death is about eternal life. The reason for this phenomenon is that the two people are in different social and cultural backgrounds. Although Dickinson lived in the United States there was a war, but the whole is on the rise stage, Li he lived in the middle of the Tang Dynasty society dark, in the decline of the road. Dickinson accepted the idea of eternal life after Christian death, but Li he did not fully accept Taoism.
